Job description:

Do you enjoy fishing and sharing your knowledge of the outdoors with young people? We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dependable Fishing Instructor to lead an engaging after-school enrichment program for middle school students.

The instructor will introduce students to the fundamentals of recreational fishing through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and interactive lessons. Participants will learn basic fishing techniques, equipment identification, knot tying, casting fundamentals, fish identification, water safety, conservation practices, and responsible outdoor recreation. The program is designed to build confidence, patience, teamwork, and an appreciation for nature while providing students with a fun and educational outdoor experience.

Program Schedule

  • Location: Visalia, CA
  • Dates: August 13, 2026 – September 18, 2026
  • Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays
  • Time: 2:30 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Grade Levels: 7th – 8th Grade

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate fishing and outdoor education activities.
  • Teach fishing fundamentals, including casting techniques, knot tying, equipment use, fish identification, and conservation practices.
  • Promote water safety, environmental stewardship, and responsible outdoor recreation.
  • Encourage teamwork, patience, confidence, and respect for wildlife and natural resources.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supervise students throughout the program and ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, staff, and program coordinators.
  • Arrive prepared with lesson plans, instructional materials, and equipment as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience with recreational fishing, outdoor education, wildlife conservation, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching, coaching, mentoring, or working with youth is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of fishing equipment, techniques, safety practices, and local regulations is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and classroom/group management skills.
  • Reliable, patient, enthusiastic, and passionate about sharing the outdoors with young learners.
