Job Summary:

Agapeland Christian Academy is seeking a passionate and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to lead an 8-week enrichment course for elementary-aged students. The ideal candidate is organized, structured, and excels in classroom management, creating a supportive and engaging environment for young learners.

This part-time opportunity is perfect for individuals who enjoy working with children and are eager to introduce them to the fundamentals of ASL through interactive lessons, games, and activities that promote communication and inclusion.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver weekly ASL lessons tailored for elementary-aged students.

  • Introduce students to basic ASL vocabulary, fingerspelling, common phrases, and deaf culture.

  • Create a structured, fun, and inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learning styles.

  • Maintain clear classroom rules and routines to promote respect and attentiveness.

  • Use age-appropriate teaching tools such as songs, visuals, movement, and storytelling.

  • Provide progress updates and communicate clearly with program coordinators as needed.

  • Arrive on time and prepared with materials for each session.

  • Ensure the safety and engagement of all students throughout the session.


Qualifications:

  • 2–5 years of experience working with elementary-aged children in a classroom, camp, or similar setting.

  • Minimum 2 years of American Sign Language experience (teaching, interpreting, or fluent signing).

  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to maintain student focus and participation.

  • Highly organized and punctual, with strong lesson-planning abilities.

  • Energetic, engaging, and patient teaching style.

  • Must pass a background check and meet school safety requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching ASL in a school, camp, or enrichment setting.

  • Knowledge of Deaf culture and ability to incorporate it meaningfully into lessons.

  • Educational background in communication, early childhood education, or special education.
